The Legend of Diekses Helpfulwines - The Fragrant Enchantments of Curiosity
Diekses was a soldier who hailed from the humble hamlet of 'Yawnbuckles'. Once a loyal hearthperson of Mathras Bulbousmorning, he ran many a mission for his lord in his years of service, slaying beasts and routing bandit camps, becoming a formidable warrior in the process. However, as time went on, Diekses grew tired of his service with his lord and dreamt of exploring the world in search of treasure and glory.
And so, on a rainy afternoon in the barracks, he gathered his inventory and asked two of his life-long comrades Testri Laboursquares and Citu Squirttattoos to join him on his adventures. Today, his life as a hearthperson ended and the life of an adventurer began.
Ten years had passed since that fateful day, and Diekses wandered the lands, beginning to feel the pangs of boredom once again. Testri and Citu quickly met their demise at the hands of zombies when the group tried to raid a necromancer tower on their first day of adventure. Since then, he had mostly been alone. Occasionally he would hire the odd mercenary, but they never did last long against the creatures Diekses fought. Over the course of his adventures, he had slain 3 bronze collosi, 2 hydras, 1 dragon, 6 giants, 1 cyclops, 1 desert titan, 1 vampire, destroyed 4 necromancer towers, raided a dark fortress and killed countless bandits. He had become a legend amongst the civilized world.
But having slain beasts and destroyed evils of all kinds, there was almost nothing left in the world that could challenge him. He was lost, without purpose. Until one day, in his aimless travels, he stumbled across an enormous circular slade structure, just sitting in the middle of a vast desert. It dawned on Diekses that he had just discovered a vault. He had heard of these places from legends and myths, structures created in the times before time by Demons as a conduit from the Underworld to the surface. They were said to be inhabited by a single immensely powerful Archangel, as well as a host of other angelic creatures.
This is it, Diekses thought. Finally, something to offer a worthy challenge to the world-weary swordsmaster. He approached the solemn slade doors of the vault and steeled himself for what may lie behind them. Not a moment too long after, and the doors suddenly began to shift and shudder on their own, revealing the dark interior of the great slade dome.
Diekses carefully stepped into the darkness, quietly drawing his bronze two-handed sword. The chamber was dimly lit by the harsh desert sun filtering in through the entrance and the holes in the ceiling. The swordsmaster noticed there were four stone statues standing against the pillars which held up the chamber. They were faceless, humanoid in shape but had wings and held a great crescent halberd and rounded shield at their sides. He took another step forward and as the sound of his bronze high boot footfall echoed against the smooth slade walls, the statues immediately began to come to life, their halberds flickering with a holy light and the stone melting off their bodies. The Angels of Inod marched towards Diekses. The slade doors behind the swordsmaster slammed shut, trapping him inside, but Diekses simply smiled. This was what he had been looking for his entire life.
The lone Angel of Inod swung wildly at Diekses, desperately trying to keep the swordsmaster at bay. Its left arm lopped off and right leg cloven asunder, the Angel was quite literally on its last leg attempting to ward off its relentless assailant. Diekses easily parries the Angel's strikes and disarms his opponent by chopping off its right arm, followed by its neck, putting an end to the fight. Was this all this vault had to offer? Diekses thought as he stepped over the Angel's corpse, leaving behind yet another body in the long trail of slain Angelic guardians. Diekses steps towards the glowing door at the end of the hallway and reaches for the handle to open it.He opens the door to see revealed before him an enormous chamber, lying at the other side of the room an equally massive creature. A towering elk-bird the size of a titan, the beast was completely wreathed flames. Its eyes burned with a divine wrath and stared directly at the swordsmaster, as if it had been expecting him the entire time. The creature let out an ear-splitting screech before it charged across the room towards Diekses. Momentarily stunned by its screech, Diekses quickly recovers and draws from his back a flickering crescent halberd he had collected from the Angelic guardians. As the beast closed in on the swordsmaster, Diekses began his initial assault by throwing the halberd at the enormous monster before Inod's Destroyer was shot and killed.
