Raelyssa Nemrith
Raelyssa Nemrith is, or was a fairly popular performer who enjoyed a successful career in the infamous troop called The Drifting Songster, a traveling circus known for their acrobatics and weapon showmanship. She joined them at a very young age, as her mother and father had placed in the company’s guardianship during the war. Her keen eye and quick reflexes earned her a place in their top shows, and she drew greater and greater numbers of spectators for the now rapidly growing circus. Her art earned her the stage name Stiletto in part for her fondness for knives. Unfortunately, through odd circumstances, she left the troop and began to make her way thru life on her own.

Lore Rubystun
So many tales of legend begin with an epic backstory. Lore Rubystun is not one of those. Oh, he hope to one day be a living legend, but his beginnings are not filled with strife and sorrow… the stuff of heroes. But it’s a tale to tell, when all the other great tales have been told and the embers begin to glow softly in the fire, and the drink is low. People tend to like the little guy then, for who doesn’t like to then hear the tale of the Red Devil of Spindleholme?..
Spindelholme is a small gnome settlement, only it’s deep in the underdark surrounded by countless enemies, from the Drow to Illithads, but its inhabitants are stout little people, who above all else love gems. Why do they love the precious gems? No one really understands it, but above all others they view the ruby as the king of gems. Gems like the gnomes who mine them are unique, and can be cut into countless ways, such is the case with Lore Rubystun. Lore was born the third son to a very prosperous mining clan, one that held rights to a vast channel of rubies, hence their name. Like all gnomes, Lore loves rubies, and his upbringing was centered on all facets of the family business. Mining. Only unlike his two elder brothers, Lore was anything but interested in mining. He was what they would call “an investment”, which is basically saying that he was pretty much wasted potential until he found his calling in life. Well this investment never really paid off the way his parents had thought it would. Lore always had a mind of his own, and his body was perpetually off doing everything but mining. Quick as a whistle, Lore was fearless to the point of recklessness, and often seen balancing between the heavy cable wires setup in the mines to load the ore. His days passed, and neither he nor the family could come to terms with his lack of usefulness at what would be considered a very young age of fifteen. Gnomes are only adults in their mid-forties, so there was still hope, but it was diminishing by the decade. Eventually his father, Tormlin decided what was best for Lore wasn’t the family business, and had to come to terms with his son never truly finding a place in their society. Still he was pragmatic and loved his youngest boy, and instead paid handsomely for many tutors to come and train the child in different ways. From the common tongue to the skills that seemed to appeal to the child. He paid the elite guards handsomely to teach the boy to use weapons, most notably the special darts that they carried and a shortsword. Another decade would pass before the tutors stopped coming, for there was little more that they could teach the boy, until he gained some much needed worldly experience and adventures. So Lore began to slowly leave the safety of Spindleholme and wander into the untamed underdark. At first he wouldn’t go far, depending on his abilities to watch for danger and just explore the area, but soon he became known as one of top scouts in all of Spindleholme, a dangerous job, and one that always made the families proud. His scouting and quirky fighting style soon had the guards calling him the red devil of Spindleholme, because he was always covered in a bloody gore and gone in the blink of an eye. His tactics saved many lives, but never-the-less he began to grow weary of just patrolling the outskirts of the small settlement. Too soon Lore realized that he wanted to see more. He wanted to see the world above, and taste the air, and see what his tutors called the sky. Imagining an open horizon and emptiness above had him dreaming until he finally decided at the age of twenty-five that he was leaving Spindleholme in search of adventure and gems. |
